Whilst appearing on IGN’s Podcast Unlocked Xbox boss Phil Spencer confirmed that they will not be releasing a Gears of War or Halo sequel this year.
“It’s going to be an interesting year for us because we don’t have Gears, we don’t have a Halo first-person shooter game”
The lack of Halo game this year will undoubtedly come as a blow for Xbox gamers who eagerly await a new addition to the franchise.
Halo 5 was released in 2015 and still remains one of the most popular games within the Xbox community.
However there are games coming this year from Microsoft including Sea of Thieves, Crackdown 3 and State of Decay 2 unless any are delayed.
You can see the announcement trailer for State of Decay 2 from last years E3 below.
Spencer went onto say he’s “Incredibly proud” of Xbox’s 2017 games line up.
Cuphead, another game for Xbox that’s currently in development, is regularly teased so expect to see something at E3 regarding that.
Also during the hour long podcast, Spencer discussed Project Scorpio which is due around holiday 2017, he went into detail about the graphical output of the console.
“I am very confident in the quality that I’ve seen from the games that we’re launching and how they look on Scorpio”
“When people see games on Scorpio, for those that are close to the detail, they’re going to see a demonstrable difference between that and the games that they’re playing now on any console”
With Xbox slowly lagging behind PlayStation in terms of graphical quality, Xbox Scorpio couldn’t come fast enough.
No price or exact release date of the Xbox Scorpio have been confirmed as of yet, It’s also likely the next time we’ll hear about Scorpio will be at Xbox’s E3 briefing in June, so look out for more information on SickCritic.com
