The More Wii U Ports the Better

Nintendo could really benefit from bringing more Wii U games to the Switch. The Wii U has some really good games on it like Pikmin 3, Super Mario 3D World, and many others that would just benefit from a second chance on the Switch. The way the Switch is selling and how much Nintendo is investing into it, they would only benefit from offering more Wii U ports on a system that is doing very well. The only thing holding back the Swith now and in the future is not having enough games to warrant a purchase. Nintendo has said that they plan to bring more ports of Wii U games to the Switch, but porting as many Wii U games as possible to Switch is just a good idea any way you look at it and heres why.

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe was the first big Wii U port and has done very well become the fastest selling game in franchise history (selling over 1.2 million copies within 3 days worldwide), and gave a lot of people who did not own a Wii U a chance to play the game. It also gives the Switch a more diverse lineup of games and it gives games like Mario Kart 8 another chance to do well in the sales department.

There is a reason why Nintendo has held back on bringing more ports to the Switch, Reggie Fils-Aime (Nintendo of America President) said via, IGN, “It needs to be the definitive verison of that software for the consumer to be as excited as they are. Pokken Tournament DX with the additional fighters, the additional Pokemon, that was important for it to be an element of the game. What we are internally resisting is just a pure port, versus thinking about how not only do we showcase a game to a wider audience, but how do we make sure that there’s something more? ” Which makes sense for some games that could be ported that might not get people as excited if they did not add anything but charged full price, but at the same time Nintendo has some really great games on the Wii U and they would be missing out if they did not give the games a second chance on the Switch.

For example, if Nintendo was to announce a Super Smash Bros Wii U port for the Switch, with nothing new and charged full price, people would just go crazy and it would sell insanely well. Also, most people are looking for something new to play on there Switch so adding some great Nintendo games would help. Plus the amount of people that played the Wii U versions of games that could be ported to the Switch is not very high so making the Switch as close to a Wii U machine as they can just makes sense. Finally, the games the Switch already has and that are coming soon would make it even harder for consumers to not want a Switch with more great Nintendo games from the Wii U.

Nintendo has said they plan to give more Wii U games a second chance, only time will tell what games they decide are worth porting over to the Switch. But bringing as many Wii U games to the Switch just makes sense any way you look at it.
