Lawbreakers: The Walking Dead

Lawbreakers, the new game from Gears of War lead designer Cliff Bleszinski, had a decently explosive start, with many people playing it all over the world. Now, after it’s been out for a while, the player base has seemingly taken a bit of a nosedive. With that being said, people who have never even played the game have started claiming that the game is dead. Some valid reasons behind this is that there are extremely long wait times while being queued into matches. If you dive a bit deeper into that, you’ll notice that the player base, which on launch was in the thousands, has dropped to numbers as low as 10 concurrent players on Steam. The fact that hardly anyone plays this game sucks and confuses me as to why. I still have a profuse amount of hope this game is still very much alive and has the legs to carry it farther than where it’s at right now. 


This game literally just came out a couple months ago. You have to give the game time to grow. Sure, there some games that come out of the gate scoring 10’s and 9’s and never have to release any sort of DLC, all the while cementing their place in gaming history. Other great games need time to become great, and this is one of them. When Destiny first came out, it had a huge reception, until people realized it had no story and not much to do after the campaign. It wasn’t until Bungie released The Taken King expansion that the base game really found its golden ticket to fame, garnering enough popularity to warrant a highly-anticipated sequel! Now, I bet you’re thinking “but Destiny wasn’t just all multiplayer PvP like Lawbreakers is”; and you would be correct. However, let’s bring in the example of Rainbow Six: Siege. That game dropped and dropped hard. No one liked playing it because it was boring upon initial release. Now, it’s got a player base that’s over 1.3 million.



What I’m trying to say is that Lawbreakers is a ‘work-in-progress’ game. Yeah, it might have had a great start and gone south, but Boss Key Productions has been working tirelessly by adding features that were missing from the launch, which really adds to this game’s overall charm. The game scored great with reviewers all across the board and I myself, gave it a 9/10 because it’s so much fun and competitive. The movement system is fun, easy to learn but hard to master. Might I add the fact that it’s $30?! That’s half the price of a regular game, people! They’ve also been dropping the price point so those who can’t afford it can hopefully purchase it and experience the masterpiece that is Lawbreakers. This game is incredibly fun and the people at Boss Key are genuine and are always willing to talk to you about the game and what’s more, they listen to their community. They are transparent about what they are working on and new additions that are going to be coming to the game in the future. Not many developers are like this. You’re not going to be able to talk to and have a direct impact on Call of Duty or any other AAA title on the market. This is a game that you can play, and if you see something that needs to be tweaked or completely changed, let them know!


My final words are this; play this game. Just play it and invite others to play. The only thing this game suffers from is a lack of player base. That’s it. Lawbreakers needs people to play it and show as much love shown to it by its players as it has from the people that helped make it. Boss Key is doing as much as they can to get the word out about this game, even having  giveaways of the game, free play weekends and even soon here, dropping the game’s price for a limited time to 50% off. That’s $15 for a game that’s brand new and totally worth the money. You’d spend the same amount for Journey, and Lawbreakers has higher replayability. So, do yourself a favor. Go out, spend $15 on this awesome game and spread the word. Give this game life and longevity so that we all can enjoy it and the experiences it brings to the FPS tables.
