Last week, Overwatch developers Blizzard released a new cinematic short for the game, managing to make me feel at least as sad as the Mei short, despite killing fewer people. In addition, we saw a new map added to the game, as well as a new hero. The new hero’s name is Moira, and she has a face mask resembling the mask from The Phantom of the Opera. She also has a skin resembling David Bowie, so if anyone mentions that online, congratulations! You are now officially “In On The Joke”™.
In the wake of these announcements, Blizzard has decided to create a free weekend, for anyone who wants to try out the new map, hero, or just wants to play the game (which is exhilarating on its own). The free weekend will run from November 17th to the 20th, and will open to anyone with a PC. For PS4 and the Xbox One, it’s not technically “free”, because you must pay for a Playstation Plus or Xbox Live Gold membership in order to play, but if you have those subscriptions then you will also be able to download the the game and play it for “free”. The free weekend will go live at 11 AM Pacific Standard Time, and end at midnight on the 20th.
To play, simply download the battle.net app, and for console search for “Overwatch Free Weekend” on your respective game stores. Download, run, and that’s it! You don’t need to use a special code or any other kind of nonsense. The game is also not cross-platform, so console players and PC gamers will not be able to play with each other. That also goes for Xbox and PS4 players. Other than that, have fun and enjoy the game!
