Life Is Strange 2 Gets Official Reveal Trailer

Dontnod Entertainment served up some intrigue and plenty of hype with their teaser trailer of Life Is Strange 2 on August 2. We were promised that “all will be revealed August 20, 2018.” Well, check your calendars. Dontnod released a tweet that included a new trailer and a Tumblr post that gives more details into the game than we were expecting.

The sequel will be centered on Sean Diaz at age 16 as he leads his nine-year-old brother, Daniel, on a journey running from the law. After an unfortunate incident, the two have to make a run for Puerto Lobos, Mexico. It’s promised that the story and choices will be, in typical Life Is Strange nature, some of the most emotional ones across gaming as you try to come of age while teaching your brother about the type of person he should be in the world. All of it will also feature a brand-new soundtrack scored by Jonathan Morali, the composer for the original adventure with Max Caufield and Chloe Price.

While the blog post on Tumblr mentions a new power, it refuses to go into details, simply stating that it is “something you will discover in due course.” However, the natural inference based on the teaser and the new trailer is some kind of psychokinetic power that, unlike the original Life Is Strange, can truly manipulate the world. Of course, this is just a general assumption. Dontnod has a way of starting off easy to digest and slowly becoming more complex. These powers are briefly showcased in the trailer in a scene that gives further depth to the events of the teaser. It’s a little jumbled up, but it’s pretty clear that this is the moment that Dontnod ambiguously calls “a tragic event” that forces Sean and Daniel on the road.

Although the trailer and blog post answers a lot of questions, we are still left with a decent amount. For example, how The Awesome Adventures of Captain Spirit plays into all of this. I know that I’ll be replaying the demo to try and find out. If I were to take a guess, I’d say that Chris’s house is one of the places that the two brothers find themselves along their adventure. Again, it’s just speculation.

Captain Spirit

As if this wasn’t all we asked for, Dontnod announced in their blog that over the next couple days they would be releasing even more information, including a gameplay trailer. It was also said that the very first scene of the game will be fully playable at the Square Enix booth at Gamescom 2018 (oh, how I wish I could be there). To stay updated on all of this information, it’s suggested that you subscribe to the Life Is Strange YouTube channel where all upcoming reveals and trailers will be in this coming week.

Life Is Strange 2 is available now for pre-order on PC, PlayStation, and Xbox. The first episode is scheduled for release on September 27, 2018. If you haven’t already, be sure to check out the free Life Is Strange 2 demo, The Awesome Adventures of Captain Spirit, on Steam.
