Next to Wolfenstein, Doom Eternal is what I was looking most forward to from Bethesda. We got to see beautiful trailers, one of Doom Guy endlessly mowing down waves of enemies, and another of the new movement abilities. Doom Guy gets to double jump, air dash, punch massive blockades out of the way, and walk through poison with various abilities. After those, we were blessed with a gameplay trailer, starting with Doom Guy going to Mars of all places, dropping deep below the surface, and crash landing. As the presenter said, the only path to victory is to “aggressively control the fight”, and he certainly did, blasting monstrous enemies with a wide array of weapons including shotguns, machine guns, electric beams, a chainsaw, and more. Everything down to the sound design makes for a violent atmosphere radiating pure power.
Doom Eternal releases November 22, and a collector’s edition including Doom Guy’s Helmet will be available.
