Watch Dogs Legion-E3 2019

After a gorgeous musical presentation, Ubisoft showed off gameplay footage from Watch Dogs Legion, the latest in their open world hacking franchise. After a standard Orwellian-esque intro, the player walks into a courtyard with the hope of recruiting somebody. They could receive information on anyone around, and just when they found someone they were looking for, they entered an engagement with an enemy officer. After being taken down, they were prompted with a “surrender” or “resist” choice. When they resisted, they turned invisible and ran away, but met their fate shortly after.

Most interesting was that dying left this character permanently dead, and the player had to choose another operative to play as. This is apparently the gimmick for the game: no respawning, you have to recruit new characters for your team in order to keep going, and everyone is a playable character. You can also switch between characters without dying, so if there’s separate skillsets, you can choose the one best equipped for the job. As a bonus, while one character (a snarky old grandma of all people) was infiltrating an enemy headquarters, the classic In the Hall of the Mountain King was playing. The trailer also featured characters stealth killing, parkouring, hacking open doors, and taking out a den of human traffickers.

Watch Dogs Legion is available for preorder now on Windows, PS4, and Xbox One. It will be available March 7th, 2020.
