Cyberpunk 2077 Will Feature Religious Factions

The lore behind Cyberpunk 2077 keeps growing more intricate! As confirmed by CD Projekt Red in an interview with the Polish press, Cyberpunk 2077 will incorporate the presence of religious factions as a means to illustrate their effect on Night City, California. CD Projekt Red has presently only confirmed the appearance of Christianity as a faction that your protagonist can engage with, but have also implied the presence of more religion factions to be disclosed in the future. Given Cyberpunk 2077‘s dystopian setting, religious factions in-game will surely have the ability to uplift or mislead the greater society at large.

CD Projekt Red has shown in the past a shrewd ability to handle touchy subjects in thought-provoking manners that refrain from cheapening the topic for shock value. Past open-world action RPGs including The Witcher 3 and The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim has featured religious factions as an element of their world design, but have lacked the real-world connection Cyberpunk 2077 looks to establish. A representative of CD Projekt Red has been quoted stating that, “Our vision of Cyberpunk is not to describe an alternate world but a continuity of our world.” It appears that religious factions will be portrayed in a morally ambiguous light, allowing the player to determine the impact of their presence.

Cyberpunk looks to be a remarkably nuanced portrayal of a near-future society, perhaps the most expansive portrayal of a cyberpunk society in the video game medium since Deus Ex: Human Revolution. As the game approaches its April 16th, 2020 release date, more and more info seems to cast Cyberpunk 2077 as a potential trailblazer, feverishly anticipated by the Sick Critic staff. Given the tendency for even the most provocative AAA titles to resign themselves to insular story design lacking in commentary or integrated ideals, Cyberpunk 2077 should be a refreshingly ambitious and incredibly detailed world to navigate. And of course, the religion of Keanu Reeves will always remain a viable option.
