New Super Lucky’s Tale Drops in November

New Super Lucky’s Tale is making its way to the Nintendo Switch on November 8, developer Playful Studios reveals. New Super Lucky’s Tale is a 3D platformer that pays homage to classics of the same genre, such as Super Mario 64 and Banjo-Kazooie.

The first installment, entitled Lucky’s Tale, was released in 2016 exclusively for the Oculus Rift VR headset. The sequel, Super Lucky’s Tale, then released in 2017 as an Xbox One X launch title. Super Lucky’s Tale was not a VR game like its predecessor and was published by Microsoft Studios. New Super Lucky’s Tale is the expanded version of Super Lucky’s Tale and is coming exclusively to the Switch. It was announced at E3 2019 during Nintendo’s Direct.

As seen in the trailer, New Super Lucky’s Tale has the player taking control of Lucky the Fox, a playful character with a plethora of different abilities. Lucky digs and slides his way through both 3D and 2.5D levels and collects plenty of coins along the way.

With Playful Studios’ title being a love letter to mascot platformers, the Switch is a good platform for it to release on. Crash Bandicoot N.Sane Trilogy came to the Switch last year and allowed lovers of the series to experience it a whole new way due to handheld mode. Super Lucky’s Tale received mixed reception; critics praised its colorful environments and charm but claimed it had a lack of original ideas and wonky camera angles. The portability of the Switch and updates made to New Super Lucky’s Tale will hopefully serve to remedy these issues and allow Playful Studios to achieve its goal of creating an enjoyable platformer.

Will you be picking this one up on November 8? Let us know down in the comments!
