The Outer Worlds is Touching Down on Nintendo Switch

Less than two months away from its release for PS4, Xbox One, and PC, it has been announced that The Outer Worlds (not to be confused with Outer Wilds) will be headed to Nintendo Switch! The sci-fi action RPG has not been given an official date for its Nintendo Switch release, but its mere announcement reads as a pleasant surprise that will be much anticipated. A passionate video featuring Obsidian Entertainment’s Senior Producer Matthew Singh was uploaded to Nintendo’s YouTube channel earlier today describing the game extensively, along with Obsidian’s enthusiasm to be working with Nintendo on bringing The Outer Worlds to the platform.

The port will be aided by game developer Virtuos, who previously handled successful ports of Dark Souls and LA Noire to the Nintendo Switch. Gameplay from the Switch port has yet to be shown, but with the quick turnaround between The Outer Worlds‘s announcement at The Game Awards 2018 and its declared release date of October 25th, 2019, we can hope that the Switch port will soon follow.

The Outer Worlds promises to carry over Obsidian’s experience with Fallout: New Vegas to a new universe providing similar doses of dark humor and first-person blasting in a brave new world. The game will orbit around a technicolor dystopia, overruled by corporations and unending consumerism (perhaps in manners that aren’t too different from the current gaming industry). Though composed of elements that range from Borderlands to the work of Justin Roiland, the game’s world as a whole looks to be beyond comparison. Add the presence of intricate perk systems and faction alliances and The Outer Worlds looks like another landmark action RPG in a decade full of them. With the gradual acclaim many Obsidian Entertainment titles have gotten in recent years, here’s hoping that The Outer Worlds is another step forward for the ambitious developer.

  1. […] The Outer Worlds is an Epic Games Store timed-exclusive, meaning it won’t be coming to Steam until a year after its initial release. Players can also buy the title on PC via Xbox Game Pass and the Microsoft Windows Store. If you love to take your RPGs on the go, The Outer Worlds is coming to Nintendo Switch too, but we still don’t have a confirmed date yet.
