Amidst the heaps of trouble E3 might be in, we can at least seek solace in the upcoming Gamescom 2019, headed to Cologne, Germany from August 20th-24th and streamed worldwide. At 2 PM ET on August 19th, Gamescom will hold its Opening Night Live, laying host to over 15 game publishers premiering and announcing new content. Further details on individual events have already started to trickle in. For one thing, Hideo Kojima will be present to offer a new look at Death Stranding, in what promises to be the most comprehensive display of the game yet. Sega has also announced their lineup for the expo, including a veiled AAA title, Catherine: Full Body, Two Point Hospital for consoles, and a playable SEGA Mega Drive Mini. The elusive Google Stadia will be exhibited alongside brand new games.
We will also be seeing announcements from… 2K, Activision, Bandai Namco Entertainment, Bungie, Capcom, EA, Epic Games, Koch Media/Deep Silver, Private Division, Square Enix, Sony Interactive Entertainment, THQ Nordic GmbH, Ubisoft, and Xbox Game Studios. Did you catch all of that? Well, it turns out this is merely a glimpse of the full lineup, with more information likely to creep in as the days count down. Gamescom has in recent years asserted itself as a top dog in the field of video game expo extravaganzas and we can only expect that some landmark announcements will be made.
So what can we expect? Is a new Resident Evil game already in development? Will we see more footage of The Last of Us 2? Will Dead Island 2 be mentioned at all? Will Destiny 2: Shadowkeep get a wider display? What about Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order? Or the aforementioned unknown Sega AAA game hidden behind closed doors, what’s up with that? Most likely, we will see some of these and plenty more in an unrelenting circus of hype. May the day tick ever closer.
More than 15 game publishers will premiere new content and make announcements during @gamescom Opening Night Live. An exciting show is coming together for Monday, August 19! Hope you get to tune in and watch the stream! pic.twitter.com/THAv4bvZlm
