Capcom have just dropped a teaser trailer for Project Resistance, a Resident Evil spin-off that we now know to be a “team-based survival horror experience” according to the official Resident Evil Twitter account.
This comes after a Project Resistance teaser site went up on August 29th, with the promise we would learn more today. Later that day, fans managed to leak some screenshots via Reddit that they had discovered using a live stream URL from the site. The screenshots showed four casually dressed people wielding an assortment of weapons, leading to the speculation this would be a co-op title.
The teaser trailer follows the four aforementioned characters navigating their way through some kind of lab, where they are set upon by zombies, and a licker comes out to play as well. After a short tussle, the characters are then faced with what looks to be a T-103 model Tyrant, the same model as the infamous Mr. X from Resident Evil 2. The Tyrant even dons a hat just like in the Resident Evil 2 remake, most likely to monopolize on his massive popularity that came with the remake.
Many fans are hoping that Project Resistance will be a spiritual successor to the cult classic Resident Evil: Outbreak. Two Outbreak games were released for PlayStation 2 and are loved for their unforgiving mechanics and early use of online play. Just from what we’ve seen so far and modern trends, it seems like Project Resistance will have a faster gameplay style like the more recent titles, as opposed to the slower survival aspects featured in Outbreak.
Either way, speculation isn’t too useful, as more information is to come during Tokyo Game Show which starts in just a couple of days on September 12th. Do you like the look of Project Resistance, or were you hoping for a certain other RE announcement? Let us know down in the comments!
