Geoff Keighley Announces the Date for The Game Awards 2019

Geoff Keighley is not only famous for making a cameo appearance in Death Stranding, he also created The Game Awards – the annual celebration of the best of the best in gaming. In a recent tweet, he announced that The Game Awards 2019 will take place on December 12th.

Keighley makes it clear in his tweet that the emphasis this year will be on game creators. He passionately describes his recent conversations with gaming creatives and this year’s show is an open invitation to join in with those conversations. Keighley also stated that he won’t be hogging the lime-light this time around, instead “a group of visionary teams” will take to the stage to share their upcoming projects. The change of direction is welcome – it’s always great to see creators showing off their work on a huge platform such as this.

The Game Awards is not just a celebration of all things gaming, it’s a great place to announce new games. Last year we saw the first trailers for Mortal Kombat 11, Far Cry New Dawn, Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled and of course, Joker’s character reveal for Super Smash Bros Ultimate. Pretty tough act to follow, but Keighley and his team always manage to deliver several big announcements and world premier trailers.

Naturally, the ceremony will also present awards to the games most worthy of celebration in 2019. Last year God of War walked away with the coveted ‘Game of the Year’ award and it’s anyone’s guess who’ll win the title this year. The nominees have not yet been disclosed but they’ll likely surface a month prior to the big show.

Every year The Game Awards gets bigger and better and we can’t wait for this year’s show. Got any early predictions for Game of the Year? Let us know in the comments.
