UPDATE: While the leaks mentioned in this article have not been 100% disproven, the predicted Mii Fighter costumes and the supposed new “Online mode” were not mentioned with the release of Terry Bogard like the leak claimed they would be. However, the leak did get the name of the new stage, “King of Fighters Stadium”, correct. It will be interesting to see what other parts of the leak (if any at all) prove to be true.
Monday and Tuesday have been buzzing since rumors surfaced on 4chan that Doom Slayer will be the fifth DLC fighter coming to Smash Bros. Ultimate. The news was popularized by a Tweet from @uncleancasuals that shows a screenshot of a 4chan post making predictions about three upcoming fighters, including Doom Slayer, upcoming Mii Fighter costumes, the name of the next stage being released with Terry Bogard, and a brand new “Online mode”.

The anonymous poster on 4chan listed Doom Slayer, Geno from Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars, and, believe it or not, Frogger as three of the upcoming DLC fighters for Smash. The Mii costumes include “Geese, Heihachi, Lloyd Irving, and Hollow Knight,” and the supposed online mode is called “Slipspace.” This is a massive leak that, while it’s impossible to know for sure until it all unfolds, has signs pointing towards its possible validity.
While this is a lot of information that has a lot of potential to be inaccurate, a lot of people are pointing out how tomorrow’s Smash livestream hosted by Masahiro Sakurai is a whopping 45 minutes long. Banjo & Kazooie’s livestream clocked in at a whopping 25 minutes as the longest livestream for a smash character, and this is going to nearly double that. The time will have to be filled, and a new online mode could do the trick. However, it was announced during the Banjo presentation that the Home-Run Contest mode would be the final new mode added to the game. Unfortunately, the Nintendo Versus Twitter account officially announced in a comment that there will be no new fighters announced tomorrow, so if the new online mode isn’t true, then it’s hard to predict what they’ll be filling the extra time with.
During this livestream, there are no announcements regarding any unrevealed fighters.

While this means we won’t know about the potential new fighters, we will get an idea for the trustworthiness of this rumor if the Mii costumes, new stage name, and online mode end up being correct. However, even if the 4chan post does correctly predict these, there’s no saying what we will actually see down the line with new fighters.
