Twelve long years have come and gone without a single whiff of news about a new Half-Life game. That wait ended today as Valve, out of the blue, teased Half-Life: Alyx as their ‘Flagship VR Game’ for SteamVR — It ain’t Half-Life 3, but we’ll take it!
We’re excited to unveil Half-Life: Alyx, our flagship VR game, this Thursday at 10am Pacific Time.

Thankfully, we won’t have to wait very long to find out what the game will look like since they’ll unveil the game this Thursday at 10 am Pacific Time.
In the meantime, we can only speculate on how the game will look and play, but given Valve’s penchant for first-person games, it’s safe to bet this’ll follow suit. Based on the game’s title, it also safe to assume this could be a Half-Life spin-off that focuses on Alyx Vance, Gordan Freeman’s accomplice throughout Half-Life 2 and its subsequent episodes. Prequel or sequel, it’ll be interesting to experience the dystopic future from Alyx’s perspective.
The true potential of VR in gaming still feels like it’s yet to be tapped into, and who are better positioned than Valve to prove what VR is capable of. The Valve Index is widely considered to be one of the best VR kits on the market now and Half-Life: Alyx could be that killer app that forces a lot of gamers to take the plunge and invest in VR. In marking this game as their ‘Flagship VR Game’ it’s clear that they have plenty of faith in the project and it’s exciting to see what Valve will do with the technology and where that experience will take gamers.
