Nestled deep inside today’s Playstation 5’s Future of Gaming event was a trailer for Resident Evil 8: Village. In case you missed the trailer or just want to see it again (and why wouldn’t you?) you can watch it right here:
Immediately, it’s apparent that all the rumors about this new Resident Evil taking place in a rustic village were true. Symbols of the occult call back to Blair Witch, and unspeakable horrors tear their way through ramshackle huts and attack helpless peasants. In case the visuals weren’t already an obvious enough throwback to Resident Evil 4, the trailer ends with a wide shot of a castle looming over the misty village.
Gameplay-wise it seems to follow in the footsteps of Resident Evil 7 with its dark corridors and first-person perspective. We also play as RE7‘s protagonist Ethan, and while we do see him holding a gun at one point, there will undoubtedly be a lot of first person hide-and-seek with some of the new antagonists shown off, which include a dolled-up mistress and a werewolf.
While the trailer didn’t offer a concrete release date, it’s currently slated to release sometime in 2021.
