Sony Announces PlayStation 5 Showcase Event for September 16th

On a brisk Saturday morning, Sony dropped the megaton announcement everyone has been waiting for: another PlayStation 5 event. Coming off the heels of Microsoft’s Xbox Series S announcement earlier this week, Sony’s event will primarily focus on the PlayStation 5’s launch lineup from their Worldwide Studios and development partners. The event will air on Wednesday 1 PM PDT/4 PM EST/9 PM BST/10 PM CEST and will last for a hefty 40 minutes or so. Some games featured in this showcase will release after the console launch period. While Sony has not confirmed this themselves, we can also expect to finally see the price, release date, and pre-order information for the PS5, so make sure you prime those wallets!

Most if not all games featured in this showcase were likely previously revealed at Sony’s Future of Gaming event back in June, so definitely expect to see gameplay footage for Spider-Man: Miles MoralesRatchet & Clank: Rift Apart, Demon Souls, Bugsnax, and other exclusive titles. Dates for many games could very likely be revealed as well, so mark your calendars for the games you’re most looking forward to!

It is also implied that this is the last major event Sony will host prior to the console’s launch. Therefore, any unanswered questions about the PS5, such as the UI and upgrade programs, will probably be covered via official blog posts or isolated YouTube videos later in the year. It seems likely that this event is focused on the games and release information for the PS5, so it is probably best to keep expectations in check.

What are you most looking forward to from this showcase event? Do you expect to see any unannounced games to make a surprise appearance? Let us know in the comments below! As always, be sure to tune in to Sick Critic for all news and updates coming from this PS5 event, as well as every next-generation announcement before the launch of the PS5 and Xbox Series platforms.
