2018 is already off to a great start as both Monster Hunter World and Dragon Ball FighterZ lived up to the hype, while Celeste came out of nowhere and won over the hearts of many. February looks to continue the upward trend, as it is full of intriguing titles from start to finish, so let’s get started!
February 3: EA Sports: UFC 3
Reviews are in, and the latest entry in EA Sports’ take on MMA seems to have taken the series to new heights. With an updated combat system, more offline and online modes than ever and a streamlined career mode, UFC 3 seems to retain the realism that hardcore fans adore, while also creating an enjoyable experience for casual fans. One gripe that seems to be popping up in reviews though, is the grappling is not very enjoyable when comparing it to classics like THQ’s UFC Undisputed series. Other than that, UFC 3 is one fans should not miss out on, it releases on February 3 for $59.99 on the PS4 and Xbox One.
February 6: Shadow of the Colossus
The first highly anticipated PS4 exclusive of the year is the complete remake of the beloved PS2 classic, Shadow of the Colossus. Reviews are in, and this seems to be the perfect remake, as it maintains the special feeling the original gave you, while also vastly improving the originals lighting, textures, draw distances and more. It looks like my next week is fully booked, as I will be calling in sick to work, so I can spend all week in photo mode with this beauty. Shadow of the Colossus releases on February 6, for $39.99 on the PS4.
February 8: Civilization VI: Rise and Fall
The first official expansion for the acclaimed turn-based strategy game hits shelves this month. The expansion focuses on new mechanics that can lead to the rise and the downfall of players civilizations, and on how players deal with the aftermath. The DLC is set to add 8 new civilizations and leaders such as Korean and Scottish. The Rise and Fall DLC launches on PC for 29.99 this February.
February 9: Dragon Quest Builders
Dragon Quest Builders, an RPG set in the Dragon Quest universe that also focuses on building elements similar to Minecraft, is set to hit the Nintendo Switch early this month. Dragon Quest Builders is a great fit for the Switch, as its simple gameplay is fun in short bursts for on the go play, and with a sequel coming later this year, now is a better time than ever to pick this one up.
February 8: Dynasty Warriors 9
Dynasty Warriors 9, the latest entry in the beloved hack and slash series, is changing it up in a big way, as it is taking the series open-world. The open world is similar to others, as players can complete side quests and freely explore the world, it also features dynamic weather and a day-and-night cycle. Don’t worry though, Dynasty Warriors 9 will still maintain the insane over the top action from previous games. Dynasty Warriors 9 hits the PS4, Xbox One and PC on February 9 for $59.99.
February 13: Kingdom Come: Deliverance
Kingdom Come: Deliverance, is an open-world RPG similar to the likes of the Elder Scrolls and Witcher series, with one major exception, the games main focus is realism. Other than the storyline, which has been created by the team at Warhorse Studios, Kingdom Come: Deliverance puts realism over everything, as each location is based on real towns and villages, and the combat focuses on actual tactics used during this time. Kingdom Come: Deliverance is looking quite promising, and as long as the games focus on realism doesn’t sacrifice the fun factor, we may be in for a treat when it hits the PS4, Xbox One and PC for $59.99, on February 13.
February 13: Owlboy
Owlboy, the indie hit from D-Pad Studio, will finally release on consoles this month. Owlboy is a platformer that follows Otis, a human-owl hybrid, as he ventures out to save his village from pirates. Owlboy features multiple characters that Otis can pick up and use as different weapons, as players progress through the game. This title will be right at home on the Switch, as hit indies seem to do exceedingly well when ported onto the system. Owlboy releases on February 13 for the Nintendo Switch, PS4, and Xbox One.
September 15: Secret of Mana Remake
Another classic, another remake, the beloved classic Secret of Mana, is getting a full 3D remake for the PS4, Vita and PC this month. The pioneer of the action RPG genre, will receive a complete visual overhaul, as the developers hope to maintain what made the original so extraordinary, while also appealing to a new generation. Were quite excited for The Secret of Mana remake, we just hope it makes it to the Switch at some point in the near future.
February 16: Bayonetta 1 and 2
Easily the biggest port of the year for the Switch until Dark Souls, Bayonetta 1 and 2 are both classic action games from the company that does action games the best, Platinum Games. If you haven’t played these titles yet than you need to its that simple, no but in all seriousness, with unique power-ups, slick visuals, and incredible boss battles, the Bayonetta series is top of the class action. With the ability to take these on the go, and a third entry on the way, these are must play for Switch owners who missed out on the last generation, they release on February 16, for $59.99.
February 16: Fe
Breathtaking is the word best used to describe the upcoming platformer from Zonik games, Fe. Fe is a platformer set in the forest, as players control a fox-like creature, named, you guessed it, Fe. Gameplay features songs which Fe can unlock from other animals, and then use to traverse through the game’s world. This beautiful platformer is full of potential and we can not wait to get our hands on it on February 16, when it releases for the Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, PS4, and PC.
February 20: Metal Gear Survive
The first Metal Gear without Kojima is taking the series in a completely new direction, as Metal Gear Survive is all about surviving. After an open beta, this title doesn’t look as bad as expected, and fans of co-op survival games should be excited for what Konami has put together, but Metal Gear Survive is one people are not really expecting much from, but who knows, maybe Konami surprises us all when Metal Gear Survive releases on the Xbox One, PS4 and PC later this month.
February 26: Payday 2
The popular online co-op bank robbing simulator is bringing something new to the Switch the system doesn’t really have right now, an online co-op focused shooter. Hopefully, this popular shooter runs well on the Switch and finds a community on the system as if it does well it may persuade other online-focused game makers to bring their titles to the Switch, Battlefield or Overwatch maybe? Payday 2 releases on the Nintendo Switch, for $49.99 on February 26.
