Borderlands 3 Becomes Fastest-Selling 2K Game

 

In addition, according to 2K, Borderlands is now a billion-dollar franchise, the third installment of which has now sold 50% more than its predecessor. Other details include the game’s 70% digital purchase rate, more than 14 million hours of Twitch content viewed, and consistent ranking on Twitch’s Top Five Most-Watched Games.

David Ismailer, President of 2K Games, was quick to address the community, stating, “Mayhem does not happen by itself, and [the community’s] passion for the series is what drives us to make each game an amazing experience.” He also expressed his gratitude “to everyone who played a role in making the Borderlands series the global, pop culture phenomenon that it is today, including hundreds of developers at Gearbox and many who have made this their life’s work.”

The small piece also made mention of some recent news that Borderlands 3 will be releasing on Google Stadia when the platform is officially launched in November. This was reported earlier this September days before the game’s release on Xbox, PlayStation, and the Epic Games Store. With that being said, Borderlands 3 is also reaching more platforms than its predecessors with availability on Xbox One X, PlayStation 4 Pro, and eventually Stadia.

Ever since the release of the original Borderlands, games like Anthem and Destiny have tried to replicate its exciting, genre-defining loot system, but Gearbox’s chaotic, colorful, and sometimes nonsensical franchise still has a huge following that has only grown with their latest addition. With this new title, over one billion guns have been given to players to experiment and fall in love with. The game has further cemented Borderlands‘ legacy in the industry.
