Despite a lengthy development time and a handful of delays, Final Fantasy VII Remake will finally land in the hands of eager gamers on April 10. With only two months until launch, Square Enix dropped the perfect little teaser today in the form of the game’s spectacular opening cinematic.
It really does need to be seen to be believed, so check it out here:
Intro to Final Fantasy VII Remake
The intro begins with an eagle swooping across a barren landscape, eventually heading into the city of Midgar. It’s here that we get our first-ever glimpse of the city during the daytime and it looks like a bustling, dieselpunk version of Prague with an all-too-familiar playground in the background. An erupting Mako reactor transitions us to a kneeling flower girl – this is when the nostalgia kicks in.
The Lifestream illuminates Aerith’s face as the twinkles of Nobuo Uematsu’s immortal soundtrack graces our ears like the voice of an old friend. The rest of the cinematic many of us can recite from memory: Aerith walks through the city’s streets, the camera swoops out revealing the dystopic Midgar as the game’s logo flashes onscreen—it’s enough to give long term Final Fantasy fans goosebumps. This cinematic is a breathtaking reimagining of one of gaming’s most iconic cut scenes and has gotten us more stoked than ever to play this remake.
