It’s a good week for Pokémon fans. Not only did we get Pokémon Sword and Shield’s first DLC expansion Isle of Armor today, we also got a bundle of new announcements from the Pokémon Company via a Pokémon Presents showcase.
Miss the livestream? Here’s a handy link:
New Pokémon Snap
The biggest bit of news was the announcement of New Pokémon Snap, the long awaited sequel to 1999’s Pokémon Snap. The game’s trailer showed us this new installment will stick with the ‘on rails’ gameplay style of the original. We also saw a beach and a forest environment plus Pokémon spanning from every generation, all primed to get Instafamous. This game will be heading to Switch, though it’s very much under construction and ‘coming soon’ was the only time frame we got for its release.

Pokémon Smile
Pokémon Smile also got announced as a smartphone app designed to gamify the teeth brushing experience for toddlers. It’s a very Nintendo idea that honestly looks quite sweet, especially the lo-fi designs of the original starter Pokémon.

Pokémon Cafe Mix
The other game announced today was Pokémon Café Mix, a puzzle game which allows you to serve caffeinated beverages to Pokémon. If Ryan Reynold’s Pikachu has taught us anything, it’s that Pokémon love their coffee. Gameplay looks… cluttered, if I’m being polite, but the vibes seemed wholesome and I’m certainly down with the idea of being a Pokémon barista. This game is ‘free to start’ and will release soon on Switch and smartphones.

The showcase also reaffirmed that Pokémon Sword and Shield’s 2nd DLC chapter, The Crown Tundra, which is still slated for a Fall 2020 release date. “No delays” is good to hear.
The final bit of news was there’s a lot more Pokémon news on the way… in fact, there will be more news on June 24th! Why they couldn’t put it into today’s presentation is unclear, though many have already begun to speculate it’ll be the announcement of the next big Pokémon project.
