PlayStation’s State of Play for September 24, 2019, has gone just as quickly as it got here, and we got more information of games like The Last of Us Part II, Death Stranding, and Afterparty. With that being said, we also heard a hell of a lot more about PlayStation’s upcoming releases. So, without further ado, here’s the recap for State of Play:

Humanity

Enhance and Tha LTD wanted to start of State of Play by giving us more questions than answers. Humanity, announced to be coming in 2020, left a little too much to the imagination. Our knowledge of the game is minimal, but check out our focused article on it and the trailer below. The game will be compatible with PSVR.

</p><h2><span id="call_of_duty_modern_warfare"><em>Call of Duty: Modern Warfare</em></span></h2><p><em>Call of Duty: Modern Warfare</em> comes October 25, but PlayStation’s trailer has given us the first real look at the game from a cinematics and story standpoint. You’re thrust into a world where terrorists have obtained chemical weapons and are posing a threat to the whole world. The British Special Air Service, the United States’ Central Intelligence Agency, and the Urzikstani Liberation Force team up to retrieve these weapons and avoid a global crisis. Captain Price serves as an integral leader behind the operation.</p><p>Graphically and cinematically, the game looks far better than most games we’ve seen thus far in history. It appears to be on par with <em>Red Dead Redemption 2</em>, <em>Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End</em>, and <em>The Last of Us</em>. However, there are always questions about what this will truly do for the game. A crumbling story with uninteresting characters could destroy the campaign; a microtransaction-focused multiplayer mode could ruin any potential fun to be had in that department. In other words, the game looks all pretty and neat, but how the game will actually play is always what matters. We shall see.</p><p><iframe width="700" height="394" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/zu3wZ-_IKrM?feature=oembed" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen="allowfullscreen"></p><h2><span id="wattam"><em>Wattam</em></span></h2><p>I just… *sigh*… Every time I see something about <em>Wattam</em>, I feel like I go numb for a little bit. Even when I read explanations of what the game is about, I’m instantly confused again by whatever is flashing on the screen. It seems so bizarre, but the premise has a ton of intrigue.</p><p><em>Wattam</em> focuses in on Mayor, a lonely, green box who lacks memories or joy in his life. Fortunately, his friends recognize this and all get together for a reunion to cheer their buddy up. Supposedly, there’s a lot of fun to be had and plenty of characters to fall in love with. I just wish it looked as interesting as it sounds. It all feels like a jumbled mess, but it’s sure to appeal to a lot of people who like quirky fun. It releases December 2019.</p><p><iframe width="700" height="394" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/AbW0MJxOu_Y?feature=oembed" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen=""/></p><h2><span id="arise"><em>Arise</em></span></h2><p>Techland Publishing and Piccolo teamed up to show us a new look at <em>Arise</em>, a small adventure in a beautiful world. Little is known at this point about the game, but more information is sure to come.</p><h2><span id="la_noire_the_vr_case_files"><em>L.A. Noire: The VR Case Files</em></span></h2><p>Originally releasing in 2011, <em>L.A. Noire</em> still tells a great story today with visuals and gameplay that hold up. Upon release, the PlayStation 3 version of the game received an 89 on Metacritic. Now the game takes on a new play style in PSVR. If we’re being frank, the game takes a 15-year step back in terms of its animations, and it’s easy to see how this game could be a nightmare in terms of gameplay, but the cases are pulled straight from the original game and reworked for VR, so you’re sure to get an immersive, 1940’s detective story from beginning to end. There are only seven cases as of right now, but this could change in the future. The game also comes with three new minigames that “take full advantage of the game’s unique VR mechanics: Boxing, Speedcar Racing and Shooting Galleries,” according to the trailer’s description on the PlayStation YouTube channel. The game is out now and ready for you to play it.</p><p><iframe loading="lazy" width="700" height="394" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/dj3_NdIp21M?feature=oembed" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen=""/></p><h2><span id="medievil"><em>MediEvil</em></span></h2><p>It was announced that the demo for <em>MediEvil</em> is available today in the PlayStation Store, and it will be until October 6. <em>MediEvil</em> first released in 1998 for the original PlayStation, and it focused on Dan, the poor first soul to be claimed in the battle of Gallowmere against a sorcerer, Zarok. 100 years afterward, Zarok rises the souls of his army, but he accidentally revives Dan as well. Anxious to be the hero he always wanted to be, he then goes on a journey to defeat Zarok.</p><p>The game was positively received and went on to spawn two more games in the series. This latest one, though, is a remake of the original. With updated gameplay and graphics, the game looks to tell the same story that many players fell in love with more than twenty years ago to a new audience, as is a popular trend as of late in the gaming industry. The demo will help you get a head start in the game for when it comes out alongside <em>Call of Duty: Modern Warfare</em> on October 25.</p><p><iframe loading="lazy" width="700" height="394" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/WfIMvVEiiNI?feature=oembed" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen=""/></p><h2><span id="civilization_vi"><em>Civilization VI</em></span></h2><p>November 22 will be a great day for any PS4 owners who have been looking to get their hands on <em>Civilization VI</em>. The <em>Civilization </em>series hasn’t been on console since <em>Civilization II</em> released for the original PlayStation in Japan in 1998 and North America and Europe in 1999. The latest addition to the beloved 4X franchise changed that nearly a year ago when it released on the Nintendo Switch. Now PlayStation owners will finally be getting the same pleasure this November.</p><p><iframe loading="lazy" width="700" height="394" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/RlaWy0ZhFEI?feature=oembed" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen=""/></p><h2><span id="death_stranding_ps4_pro_bundle"><em>Death Stranding</em> PS4 Pro bundle</span></h2><p>It’s hard to imagine how Sony could sell PS4 bundles with the next generation peaking its head over the horizon, but, nonetheless, PlayStation has gone and defied all logic by throwing out a <em>Death Stranding</em> PS4 Pro bundle… and it will likely double PS4 Pro sales for the year. Okay, that’s a bit extravagant, but Hideo Kojima and <em>Death Stranding</em> are both phenomena that can and will move hardware. The console is white with a black band around it and handprints on the top. It will also come with a golden controller. The bundle will be available the day <em>Death Stranding </em>releases on November 8, 2019. Coincidentally, that will be the same day that Hideo Kojima buys his new, 140-foot yacht.</p><p><iframe loading="lazy" width="700" height="394" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/davszDemUns?feature=oembed" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen=""/></p><h2><span id="afterparty_release_date"><em>Afterparty</em> Release Date</span></h2><p>Night School Studio, the creators of <em>Oxenfree,</em> are bringing a new and humorous take on death to PC and PlayStation this fall. As Milo and Lola, you have to party your way out of hell and find out the story behind your being sent there in the first place. There are tons of relationships to discover and dialogue to choose from, and, if you play your cards right, you may be able to out-drink Satan and earn your lives back. February 21, 2020, has officially been announced as the release date for the long-awaited sequel to Joel and Ellie’s original journey in 2013. With this new entry to the post-apocalyptic story, Ellie takes center stage as she sets out on a revenge mission following a traumatic event.
