Nintendo is releasing a new update for Splatoon 2 that will bring fresh stages, modes and customization options for inklings over the coming weeks. The first free update adds a new stage for Salmon Run, new gear and new hairstyles for Inklings, and more. This new update will release on Nov. 23 and will bring new battle stages the following day up through the holidays.
“These free new additions to Splatoon 2 deliver surprises to fans to keep the fun going,” said Doug Bowser, Nintendo of America’s Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing. “This new content significantly expands the game and provides a great value for players, regardless of whether they purchased it on launch day or have it on their holiday gift lists.”
Splatoon 2 will be bringing four new stages to the game, starting with MakoMart, which is a giant superstore style stage, releasing on Black Friday, Nov. 24. There will also be three more stages added to the game including Shellendorf Institute, a stage new to the series, and Walleye Warehouse and Arowana Mall are coming back from the original game.
Salmon run is also getting a new stage, Salmonid Smokeyard.
Splatoon 2 will also be adding 140 new pieces of gear, new battle music, four new hairstyles, and a new level cap of 99, increasing from the previous level cap of 50. Along with these new additions coming is convenient gear swapping. This will allow players to switch gear between battles without having to leave the lobby.
But wait….. there’s more…. Wait, seriously?
Splatoon 2 is going to top off their holiday update extravaganza with a mid-December update that includes a new ranked battle mode, Clam Blitz. In Clam Blitz, you will collect clams scattered around the stage, which will follow the player once picked up. The goal is to throw the clams in a basket near the opponents base till your team scores 100 points. These baskets are protected by a barrier that must be broken by collecting 10 clams to earn a Power Clam. You will use these clams to break the barrier so your team can score points. The first to 100 points wins the game.
It is clear that Nintendo is supporting their games through the holidays to give their player base plenty of entertainment. Look forward to the new Splatoon 2 update to start rolling out on Nov. 23.
